There is something about seeing fresh cherries in the winter that makes me cringe. Hundreds of years ago before modern-day logistics, our ancestors ate fruits and vegetables that were in season. Now-a-days we have food flown half-way across the world into our local grocery stores. Many of these foods are picked weeks before their peak of freshness, preventing them from effectively ripening as they would in their natural environment. This results in a lack of flavor and nutritional content.
Eating seasonally will also save you a pretty penny! As with the law of supply and demand, a greater supply means a lower demand, resulting in a lower price. There is a greater supply of produce when it is in season, which gives consumers like you a lower price! Here's a guideline to help you choose seasonally!
